The ADEME backup for the development of a low-carbon handling project
Manitou Group announces ADEME backing for the development of its low-carbon handling project, MATHyS (Solid Hydrogen Telehandler).
As part of the France 2030 investment plan, Manitou Group announces that it has secured financial support from the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME) to develop the collaborative research project MATHyS. The project centers on a telehandler equipped with an internal combustion engine powered by hydrogen and an innovative storage system. This research initiative is part of an overarching hydrogen R&D roadmap initiated by the group in 2021. Leading this initiative, Manitou Group has assembled an industrial and academic consortium that includes Mincatec Energy—a specialist in the development of metal hydride storage tanks and advanced management systems—and Centrale Nantes, a leading engineering graduate school, which draws on a wide range of scientific and technological expertise. The school will contribute to the analysis and optimization of the overall thermal behaviour of the energy system. The resulting solution incorporates a hydrogen internal combustion engine supplied by a low-pressure, solid-state storage technology. This architecture addresses heavy-duty operational requirements while delivering optimal safety and mechanical integration compared to conventional high-pressure gaseous hydrogen storage solutions.
This initiative aligns directly with Manitou Group’s LIFT 2030 strategic plan, with a core focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions during machine operation.
The project has received formal endorsement from the ID4mobility and Pôle Véhicule du Futur competitiveness clusters.
