Safety: everyone’s business

Did you know?
70% of accidents involving a handling machine could be prevented with adequate safety training and measures. Accordingly, Manitou Group places user safety at the forefront of its priorities through two clearly-identified channels: risk prevention and the bespoke addition of safety systems on its machines.

2018 saw the launch of a new version of the platform reduce-program.com, whose aim is to improve users’ quality of life in the workplace. On this occasion, emphasis was placed on awareness and safety through the Reduce Risks scheme. This programme was designed to assist users in their choice of equipment and offer advice on how to safely operate machines in their everyday work. To meet these goals, substantial sources of information were made available in the form of a multimedia library comprising nearly 300 videos, together with user manuals, risk prevention posters and safety and maintenance tips.

In parallel, specific safety systems are created in response to the needs and constraints of each client according to their working environment. In Manitou Group, the Special Solutions entity is dedicated to specific requests from all these users, across all markets and applications.

The expertise of our Special Solutions service creates genuine added value in the fulfilment of our clients’ projects

This has led to the introduction of a wide variety of devices to improve machine safety, such as a fire protection system, a reverse camera that can detect pedestrians, a speed limiter, a safe-start device that only functions when the seat belt is fastened, and a three-point seat belt to reduce risks in the event of accidents.

“The expertise of our Special Solutions service creates genuine added value in the fulfilment of our clients’ projects,” explains Laurent Cuvelier, Special Solutions Manager. “For some specific adaptations, Manitou Group also runs training courses in our Ancenis centre for technicians from our dealer network or end users to help them get started on their machines, always in the interests of safety. The reach of our distribution network all over the world, drawing on dedicated technical documentation that is specific to the equipment’s characteristics and complies with local standards and requirements, is very important to provide aftersales support to users on the ground. We also attach great importance to the maintenance of specific parts with ever shorter lead times so as not to penalise the activity of our clients and their working conditions.
“The health and safety of users is our priority, and most importantly, it’s everyone’s business.”
